Russia can permit Turkey tomato imports without limits per firm

MOSCOW, Apr 27 (PRIME) -- Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight does not rule out permitting tomato imports from Turkey without restrictions per company from places free of tomato moth on May 1, the authority said in a statement on Friday.

The authority also permitted supplies from five more tomato producers on Friday, and the total number of Turkish farms allowed to supply tomatoes reached 20.

Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachyov said that Moscow hopes that Turkey will in response open its meat market to Russia. “As response measures, we expect supplies of products of Russian producers to Turkey.”

Ñonsultations on Russia’s access to the Turkish meat market will be held on May 3, an official of the ministry said.

Moscow banned tomato imports from Turkey as part of the sanctions introduced after Ankara downed a Russian Su-24 bomber in 2016. In November 2017, the restrictions were lifted but tomatoes are imported under quotas.
